Museo De La Demonia- The Disfigurement Exhibit Pin

Welcome back to Museo De La Demonia, where horror, death and beauty are put on a jar! We are pleased to introduce our newest attraction, The Disfigurement Exhibit.

The first specimen we have on display is the
Shrunken Human Head.

3” Black Nickel Plated, Soft Enamel w/Epoxy & Printing. Double Rubber Clutch, Back Stamp and encased in “glass” (clear resin).

The process of creating a shrunken head begins with removing the skull from the neck. An incision is made on the back of the ear and all the skin and flesh is removed from the cranium. Red seeds are placed underneath the nostrils and the lips are sewn shut. The mouth is held together with three palm pins.

Fat from the flesh of the head is removed. Then a wooden ball is placed under the flesh in order to keep the form. The flesh is then boiled in water that has been saturated with a number of herbs containing tannins. The head is then dried with hot rocks and sand, while molding it to retain its human features. The skin is then rubbed down with charcoal ash to keep the avenging soul from seeping out.

The next specimen we have on display is Two Headed Goat-
2.5” Black Nickel Plated, Soft Enamel w/ Epoxy. Double Rubber Clutch, Back Stamp, preserved in formaldehyde (clear resin). Pearlized Enamel on Jar.

These cute goats had Polycephaly , which is the condition of having more than one head. A polycephalic organism may be thought of as one being with a supernumerary body part, or as two or more beings with a shared body.
Two-headed animals (called bicephalic or dicephalic) and three-headed (tricephalic) animals are the only type of multi-headed creatures seen in the real world, and form by the same process as conjoined twins from monozygotic twin embryos.

The last specimen we have on display is the Janus Kitten-
2.5” Black Nickel Plated, Soft Enamel w/Epoxy, Double Rubber Clutch, Back Stamp and preserved in a 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and Propylene Glyco (clear resin).

Janus Kitten gets its name from the similarly two-faced Roman God. The condition is called Diprosopus or craniofacial duplication, and is the rarest form of conjoined twinning. Because of this condition, they have a very short life span, but their beauty will continue to live on.

Due to the nature of how these are made, as they are all poured by hand, there might be slight variations in the resin or a little spec in the resin. I do not consider these to be defects. I do recommend handling them with care as they are delicate.
